The part of the work you don't see in the finished room.

Before the finish comes the choice of lumber, the fit of the parts, and the handwork that gives a piece its character. The shop archive shows those decisions in progress.

Materials for your own build

Hardwoods and plywood, brought in for your order.

Texas Handmade can source hardwood lumber and quality plywood for local woodworkers, contractors, homeowners, and small shops near Athens. Materials are brought in for confirmed orders rather than stocked for walk-in retail.

Include the species or sheet type, thickness, dimensions, quantity, grade or appearance requirements, and the date you need it. Availability, lead time, minimum quantities, and pricing will be confirmed before anything is ordered. Because supplier prices change, each written material quote will show how long that price is valid.

A working life in wood

More than twenty years at the bench. Still building.

Chuck Jones began learning woodworking from his stepfather, Peter Gould, a Santa Fe furniture maker. Peter was making furniture in New Mexico by the late 1970s. In 1987, his collaborative art furniture with artist Hillary Riggs was exhibited at Santa Fe's Sombraje Collection; in 1991, their work was featured at the new Collaboration furniture gallery. Chuck carried that early experience into more than two decades of his own doors, furniture, and architectural woodwork.

Peter's Santa Fe work is documented by The Washington Post and Hillary Riggs's artist biography.

The standard has remained steady: solid lumber, carefully fitted joinery, and attention to how a piece will serve the place it belongs.

Based near Athens, Texas and serving Henderson County, East Texas, and selected projects beyond the region. Projects are also considered across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Colorado when the scope and logistics make sense.

Prepare a project brief
How a project begins

Start with what you know. We'll work through the rest together.

  1. 01

    Describe the idea

Tell us what you want to build, where it will go, and the rough size, timing, and budget you have in mind. It's fine if some details are undecided.

  2. 02

    Review the fit

We begin by email and may ask for photos of the space, inspiration images, or a few more measurements. A brief call can help when the direction needs talking through.

  3. 03

    Agree on the next step

Once the scope is clearer, we can discuss the build, delivery, and installation needs. If detailed design, drawings, or a site visit are needed first, we'll outline that work and its fee before it begins.

Begin a project

Tell us about the piece you have in mind.

Share the essentials below so we can understand the scope. This first review is a way to begin the conversation, not an instant quote. You can tell us what you don't know yet.

Prefer to talk first? Call or text (903) 386-3306. If we are in the shop and cannot answer, leave a message and we will follow up.

01 · The project

For doors, say whether the dimensions are for the opening or the existing door. Rough measurements are fine at this stage.

Have photos or sketches? Mention them here; we can ask you to send them in a follow-up email.

02 · Timing and logistics

A range helps us assess fit. If you don't know yet, just say so. This is not a quoted price or a commitment.
